In this dynamic role, you’ll have the opportunity to supervise personnel and delegate tasks ensuring adherence to procedures and quality standards while maintaining safety, under the guidance of the Chemist. You’ll analyze data, troubleshoot equipment issues, and collaborate with others to address complex challenges. Responsibilities include: 

·         Supervise and delegate activities to laboratory personnel, ensuring work is performed accurately and on schedule in accordance to established procedures and quality standards

·         Collect, analyze, and interpret data to generate meaningful insights and assist with making informed decisions

·         Uphold high safety and hygiene standards and conditions within the laboratory area

·         Oversee equipment operation, perform minor maintenance tasks and manage housekeeping duties

·         Troubleshoot and resolve problem areas, verify analytical accuracy, and perform instrument calibration under the guidance of the chemist

·         Analyze test data to maximize process efficiency. Proactively recommend or implement adjustments to ensure performance

·         Oversee records of analysis, equipment condition, and calibration

·         Foster effective communication and collaboration with the laboratory team, mill personnel, and cross shift

·         Collaborate and partner with other experts such as scientists and engineers to tackle complex results and problem solve across disciplines

·         Lead the development of new procedures and/or refine existing ones, providing advice and actionable recommendations to elevate lab operations

·         Actively demonstrate and promote safety and best practice lab standards, setting the benchmark for a safe and efficient work environment

 

Work Location & Schedule: 
·         McClean Lake
·         14 day in/ 14 day out rotating schedule
·         Normally an 11 hour work day, although some activity outside of normal working hours may be required

Fly Day- This position will fly in and fly out on Tuesdays

Skills and Qualifications (internal)

Skills and Qualifications for the position include:

·         Graduate of a recognized Chemical Laboratory Technology program or a University degree in Chemistry

·         10+ years of laboratory experience is preferred

·         Experience with XRF, ICP-MS and HPLC is required

·         Comfortable working in an industrial plant and laboratory environment

·         Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills

·         Ability to foster and maintain good working relationships with other departments
